Dr. Hindi Mermelstein

Dr. Hindi Mermelstein is a Board Certified Adult psychiatrist with added board qualifications in Geriatrics as well as Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She completed her undergraduate degree at Touro College where she was the first female graduate to attend medical school. She obtained her MD degree at SUNY: Upstate College of Medicine, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center, a residency in Psychiatry at NYU-Bellevue, and a fellowship in the Dept of Neurology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Subsequently, she has been on faculty at various health systems, has served in a variety of clinical, administrative and academic positions including Associate Chairman in the Dept of Psychiatry at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY. In addition, she has been involved with a number of medical and community societies and committees, advisory boards, mentorship programs and special interest groups, serving as Chairman of the Standards and Ethics Committee of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and being named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She has presented and published on several areas of interest including geriatrics, women’s health, telepsychiatry and medical-legal-ethical issues. She currently splits her professional time between her faculty position at NYU School of Medicine-Langone Medical Center, her clinical position as Chief of Psychiatry at the Refuah-Ezra Medical Center in Brooklyn, her teaching position at the North Shore Health System and her private practice. However, she is most grateful for her family which BH includes her husband, children and grandchildren.
