Dr Michael Zelefsky is Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Perlmutter Cancer Center of NYU’s Langone Health Medical Center. He serves as a Vice Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and leads the Genitourinary Disease Group of the Cancer Center. He also is the Director of Brachytherapy for the hospital which is a unique form of delivering internal radiation treatment for various cancers. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Brachytherapy, and has published over 350 papers as well as book chapters and textbooks on the management of prostate cancer. Dr. Zelefsky helped pioneer the use of sophisticated forms of radiotherapy delivery such as IMRT and IGRT and SBRT in the treatment of men with prostate cancer which are now standard treatments used around the world and is a seminal voice in managing prostate malignancy. He is a renowned national and international lecturer and is a recognized thought leader in oncology where many current approaches in the treatment of prostate cancer are based upon the outcomes of the clinical research he and his team has performed and published.
Dr Zelefsky has also served as President of the American Brachytherapy Society and the recipient of numerous award for his research accomplishments and is also a Fellow of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology. He has a very active clinical practice as well as serving as a mentor over the years for hundreds of residents and fellows in Radiation Oncology. He is a musmach of Hagaon Rav Moshe Feinstein ZTL, and currently lives with his wife on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
